Vacation

Mom tried to fall asleep on us before 9 pm several times on Tuesday night.

Sarah likes the weather lately.

So does Dad.

On Tuesday night I grilled some steak over Argentinian hardwood charcoal. It was pretty delicous. We also had some Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, which was fantastic. It was very smooth and full of flavor, but had a kick to it too. I had picked it up several months ago in the Barossa for the express purpose of drinking it with our parents.

Dinner at the Red Ochre

Last night we dined at the Red Ochre in North Adelaide. It was real good. Here are Mom and Dad getting ready to dig in. We had goat cheese tortillini and crocodile fish cakes for the appetizers.

Dad and I ordered the Game Platter, which came out on this barbeque with hot coals underneath. It was pretty fantastic looking, as you can see for yourself below. It included emu sausages, wallabee skewers, roasted tomatoes, kangaroo fillet, lamb, quail and mashed potatoes. It was a lot of meat, but we put it down like real American heroes.

Mom got the fabulously savory fillet mignon with potatoes.

Throughout dinner we drank water and a bottle of New Zealand Giesen sauvigon blanc. Sarah had the duck, which is not pictured here. Sorry. This last picture is the view from the restaurant.

Little Coop in Two D

The following are some screen shots we got from the obstetric ultrasound. This one is a profile of Little Coop's heand and upper body, with the head on the right and facing upwards.

This is Little Coop's face (mostly what's showing is the skeletal part of his skull) with his chin to the right and his little eyes peering straight at you!

This is the bottom of his/her foot. Right in the middle there. The toes are pointed to the right and down a little.

Mom and Dad are still enjoying themselves, but the time difference has hit them pretty hard. We had to keep them up until nine last night (or they will never adjust), and it was a struggle. We forced them to play Uno with us to keep them awake, but even so Mom almost fell asleep with the cards in her hands.

Okay okay...

Sarah wanted to wait until we had a chance to tell our some of our family and friends the news before we went totally public. We have now had that chance, so...

The baby looks like it's a boy!

I'll put up a couple ultrasound pictures when I get them scanned in. We are both very excited!

Mom and Dad Cooper just got in yesterday evening. They'll be stating with us here in Adelaide for a week and then we'll be heading up to Cairns for a few days. I'll put up a few picture of the five of us enjoying ourselves soon.

Healthy Baby

Well, little Coop has the right dimensions. Good stuff.

Wahoo!

Some exciting things going on around here. We have our obstetric ultrasound today. We just may find out if it's a boy or a girl!!! Then we can start buying up all sort of cute little baby outfits. I am pumped.

My parents are arriving for a two week visit on Monday evening! It has been seven months now since we have seen a familial face. I am extremely excited for them to get here. The second week they are here we'll be going up to Cairns for a few days: rainforest, beach and reef. It will be a beautiful time. I am ready for a little vacation!

Sarah felt the baby kick yesterday! Pretty soon she'll be big enough that her tummy will touch me in bed, and then I can get kicked too.

My parents are also bringing a couple used Nikon lenses along with them that I ordered from a website in the states. An AF 28-85 and an AF 70-210.

Also, I have started putting my pictures up on Flickr here. I'll keep putting pictures of Sarah and I and our kid once he or she is born up on this blog, and any others I think would be interesting to you the audience, but any other shots I'll just put up on Flickr.

More of the Birthday Party

Sarah and Sarah. The birthday girl and the soon to give birth girl. I hope little Coop is born on Sarah's birthday. The due date is within a couple days.

J.J. and I swingin' high.

Everyone's object of desire. Also, check out all that pink. Too much for me to take.

The birthday girl. Recieving isn't always all it's cracked up to be.

Victor Harbour and a Birthday Party with the F4

On Saturday morning Sarah and I went to a birthday party with John and Bridgett and J.J. for the daughter of a couple from church that we met at CV who live across the road from John and Bridgett. The daughter, Sarah, recently turned three. It was a beautiful day in the park.

This kid loved John's pants. I think she thought he was her dad.

J.J. got a kick out of the swings.

Lucy, Sarah's older sister decided that she was going to wear her pink tutu and fairy wings to the park.

Our Hills Hoist. I don't think it's actually made by Hills Hoist, which are the real thing, but most of the folks around here use the brand name to refer to generic hoists too.

That baby again, with Sarah, J.J. and Bridgett in the background.

And here's a few shots from the CV conference in Victor Harbour that didn't make it onto the last roll.

Sarah: Getting More and More Bigger Every Day!

Sarah's tummy is growing right along with little Coop. Every day they get bigger together. Very soon little Coop will get too big to stay any longer, and he will enter the world of spaces large enough stretch out in.

Sarah's summer dress. She needed it yesterday with the crazy temperature.

The baby bump! Don't let the crazy high contrast leaf pattern of the dress fool you: little Coop is huge.

We went out to dinner last night at a tasty Nepali restaurant. I had some yogurt curry marinated chicken that was grilled in a charcoal oven, and Sarah had a delicious lamb curry with lentils and spicy spinach. One of the reasons the baby bump is so large in the picture above is that the restaurant has a no leftovers policy (they wouldn't box up our leftovers to take home) so we had to eat all of the food. It was too good to leave.

Getting Hot

It was 97 degrees Farhenheit over here this afternoon. I'd say that's pretty hot for spring!

The Space Race

My advice: let them take the parking space. If you accidentally cut them off and pull in, pull back out immediately and wave them in. Otherwise you may have an incident like we did a few months back.

Sarah and I were returning to our apartment complex from running some errands one day in Arlington. As I was pulling into an especially enviable spot near the front door of the complex I noticed a big white SUV out of the corner of my eye, and realized that they had been going for the same spot. I started to get out of the car to go see if they wanted the spot and apologize if I had stolen it from them, but I only caught a glance of two rather angry looking women as they pulled away. Sarah and I went inside and checked our mail, and then went back outside because Sarah had a bad feeling. Now the evidence is purely circumstantial, but when we got back out to the car our bumper had been rammed by another vehicle. That ended up costing us $300 for the deductible. While our car was being fixed I accidentally rear ended another vehicle with the rental. That didn't end up costing us anything, but it was still just a real bad saga. So don't be greedy with those parking spaces, because there's a whole lot of bad things waiting to happen to those who are.

The F4 Strikes Again

Oh man! I saw this bush and its twin (on the other side of the driveway) in my neighborhood the other day as I was taking a walk. What a splendorous piece of foliage! What an ode to man's dominion over nature! A true example of obsessive compulsive husbandry.

Good old John street. Many people over here do not understand us when we say John with our Michigan accent. We pronounce the "oh" with the shwa sound. The Aussies pronounce the "oh" just like oh.

It was too sunny out to get any real good pictures of the coast. To much contrast between well lit and in the shade.

This is the mansion that the conference was held in last weekend.

This is one of the many sweet stained glass windows in the mansion.

This old Volkswagen was just rusting away in someone's front yard. I thought it was rather poignant in a kind of undefined way.

The official national vehicle, if there was one. The Toyota Land Cruiser in all its glory. This one even had a matching camping trailer.

The grapevine on our trellis above the hammock is sprouting leaves and little bunches of grapes. If the grapes are tasty I'm going to just lay there in the hammock and reach up and grab a bunch of grapes and eat them, like I'm living in some idyllic Greek fantasy.

The Weekend Part Four

This is Mike from our church giving a downright frightening sneer during a book review.

On the left side of this picture is Nigel. We met him and his wife Rosanne (they also go to Trinity) for the first time at the conference and found out that they live right across the street from our friends Johnny and Bridgett. We've parked our car in front of their house many a time. They offered Sarah a position as their nanny, so if she feels up to it and things work out she could have a job soon.

Some delectable puddle slime.

The Weekend Part Three

We had some free time on Saturday so we went to the ocean and I took some pictures. The next piece of land past this is Antarctica.

The Weekend Part Two

On Friday I was going gangbusters to get some renderings done at work before leaving for the long weekend. I got them done in time to leave for the conference, but in the process I created the biggest knots in my neck I have ever experienced. A combination of stress, sitting with poor posture, and staring at the computer screen for hours on end. On Friday night I woke up with an insane headache and couldn't fall back asleep for anything. So at 1:30 AM I stumbled out of bed and into the car to see if I could find an establishment that could sell me some Nurofen (Australia's Ibuprofen equivalent). I drove through the deserted skirts of Victor Harbour into the town center, where a Shell gas station and the bar were the only things open. The gas station attendent sent me back out of town to a BP that was also still open. Thankfuly they had some Nurofen. So then I took some and felt better and went to sleep. How's that for anticlimax?

I saw this ute in Victor Harbour, and thought it was probably the sweetest I had ever seen. Check out those chromed mags!

This is the building Sarah and I stayed in for the weekend. It was near the mansion, but was obviously not originally part of it. They called it "the bunker."

I've been reading Acts lately.

The Weekend Part One

Sarah and I went to a conference this weekend put on by CV, an Australian organization dedicated to promoting full time paid positions in gospel work. Sarah and I have always had this on the back burner, and this weekend was a great time to think about our situation and the possibilities.

The conference was held in an old mansion built by a governer of long ago in Victor Harbour, which is on the coast about an hour south of Adelaide.

This baby was real cute. I hope little coop will be even cuter.

The usual.

We hung out on the beach after the conference was over on Monday.

Here's Jonathan Broman, the pastor's son, looking absolutely incredible. I can't begin to espouse the depth of my respect for his afro.
